Naturally inducing labor–I need your opinion?
Ok, so I’m 36 weeks pregnant with a boy!
I’ve done a lot of research and seen a lot of women on here using natural ways to induce labor such as eating pineapple, using evening primrose oil, drinking red raspberry leaf tea, etc. A lot of times it is said to start these things right around 36 weeks. So I guess what I’m asking is what is your opinion on this? Did you use any of these methods? If so, how did they work for you? If you are pregnant, do you plan on using any of these methods when you’re close to delivery? Overall, it’s something I’m considering doing, and I just want some other women’s opinions on the subject? Please no rude answers. Thanks! ![]()

alot of people will tell you not to use castor oil.. i used it and didnt find it to bad, BUT it didnt work, i was just on the toilet for a few hours but its a good clean out for ur bowl… the baby is only going to come when its ready itself unless u force it too which could be fatal.. after 36 weeks everythings fine to try, if you see anything out of the ordinary or just weird go to a doctor and explain what kinda of method you have tried such as "castor oil"..
i went into labor on week 38, after weeks of trying to naturally induce so i dont believe anything really works.. my hubby and i were actually having sex at the time when we noticed blood but i think thats just a coincedence as we’d been having sex 5 times a day for the past 3 weeks lol.
its up to you completely, what you want to try.. theres a lot of things on google which can give advice on the safest ways to try things.. i tried clary sage oil, rasberry leaf tea and cummin poweder, walking, up and down stairs, squatting, sexual intercourse … and nothing worked until like i said.. he was ready:)
whatever you do dont use the castor oil my sister drank this and all it did for her was keep her on the toilet for like 2 hours it was awful and she was 39 weeks but it didnt work
We had always heard to have sex to induce labor. I hadn’t felt much like sex in my late third trimester, but the one time we did I went into labor the next day. I also have a bunch of friends who went into labor the day after going to a theme park (such as the zoo or Sea World).
i plan on doing EVERY natural labor inducer i can when i hit 36 weeks. but like my doctor said if the baby isn’t ready the rememdies wont work but it’s worht the try!!
I’ve done EVERYTHING imaginable.
-walked 2-3 miles daily(plus the walking through the house)
-bounced on a bouncy ball 24/7
-road in a bumpy truck on a bumpy road
-ate hot/spicy foods.
-sex every other night.
-squats
-lunges
-eating pineapple (2 cans in 15 minutes!)
NEVER did castor oil..thoguht about it but too risky.
Im 2 cm dilated.
Im due in 2 days.
And still nothing!!!
Im being induced on Tuesday unless she decides to come.
My doctor (an OB) actually suggested Evening Primrose oil. We are trying to do an induction around my due date for medical reasons and he wants my cervix ripe. He doesn’t like to use Cervadil.
He suggests using evening primrose oil at 36 weeks onward vaginally. It does not induce labor per se but does ripen the cervix which can help.
Here is some info about EPO

Most of those things are harmless if anything…but do not really help in aiding in labor.
You’ve trusted your body to grow and care for the baby so far so I would say that you should continue to do that. Your body knows when your baby is ready for the world and you wouldn’t want to do anything to even slightly jeopardize that.
It’s hard to be patient but I would try things that are healthy whether you give birth or not…like taking nice long walks. I’ve heard that this can help induce labor but I wouldnt ingest anything.
Good luck! You are almost there anyways : )
Hello. Well I have 2 boys. My first one came right one his due date. He is now 2 years old and I had such an easy pregnancy with him. On the other, being pregnant with my now 2 month old wasn’t so pleasant. I had constant back aches and legs pains. The same time to start "naturally inducing" I believe was at 37 weeks. I tried EVERYTHING. The pineapple, black cohosh tea, walking and none of it worked. I know this is going to sound "ugh" to you but I ended up asking my Dr. to induce me and she did at 38 weeks. When I went in the week before to get checked as to how much I was dialated, I was already 3. Do you know how I did that? Lots of sex. That is what works. Try it if it’s not too uncomfortable for you. It was for me but I just sucked it up. lol
good luck.
P.S talk to your Doctor would be your best bet =)
I never used any "natural" labor starters. You still have 4+ weeks to go so I wouldn’t rush anything. Let it happen on its own.
I think that 36 weeks is still too soon, from around 38 weeks i started drinking raspberry tea, eating hot currys, lots of sex etc it all worked for me. This time i will wait till around 39 weeks and will do the same with a few added extras as i didnt know about fresh pineapple and nipple twisting. Am 31 weeks and very excited.
A week before I was due, at my check up the dr. said nothing at all was happening yet, and I was probably going to have to be induced. I went home and immediately made a pitcher of raspberry leaf tea, and started taking about 500mg Dong Quai 3 times a day, and started labor about 2 days later. Could be just a coincidence, since I was so close anyway. Personally I think 36 weeks is just a little early, but the raspberry leaf tea and dong quai are both safe, and don’t have those nasty side effects like castor oil.
