I have given birth 4 times. With my first 2, my labors started out similar. Both times I woke up in the morning and had some bloody show than began having some contractions. I developed a bad pain in my left side with my first baby so I called my doctor who had me come in to be checked. She said I was in labor, but just go home and wait until contractions were 5 minutes apart. My baby was born at 8:50 PM that same day. My second baby took a bit longer and wasn’t born until 6:44 AM the next morning. My doctor broke my water for me with my first 2 babies. With my third baby, I was sound asleep then woke up at 2:45 AM to use the bathroom. When I rolled out of bed, my water broke. Labor progressed rather rapidly even though she was in a posterior position, she was still born about 4 1/2 hour later at 7:18 AM. Things were odd all the way around with my 4th baby. First, she was conceived quite unexpectedly when I had been reliably taking birth control pills for 11 years. I was 38 years old and our older children were 18, 15, and 12 when she was born. I developed Gestational Diabetes with her. When I was 41 weeks pregnant, I was showing no signs of impending labor. I had not effaced or dilated and was not having many noticeable Braxton Hicks contractiosn. I was holding out to go into labor naturally without interference (induction) since my baby was doing fine and I was managing my glucose numbers well. My team of doctors suggested I try a prostoglandin gel insertion just to see if it would get my cervix to begin to thin and soften. I reluctantly agreed to it. I was at the Fetal Diagnosic Center at the hospital I was going to deliver at. I had a non-stress test followed by an ultrasound – everything was looking fine. I was checked for effacement and dilation, still nothing. About noon they inserted the gel. I had to lay on my side for about an hour than I could go home and see if anything happened during the week. Not long after having the gel insertion, things got crazy. I began to have bad cramps that turned into 6 minute contractions. These, in turn, sent my baby into distress with alarmingly low heart rates in the 50’s and 60’s! They called in the head of the high risk OB department who decided a transfer to the high risk labor and delivery ward was in order. They moved me and my husband was called to come and meet us. I was being prepped for pitocin when they checked my cervix and discovered that I was dilating on my own. Things were chaotic for awhile, but eventually my body took over and began to labor normally so I avoided the pitocin. Sometime in the late afternoon my water broke on it’s own during a contraction when I was in active labor. I went from absolutely no signs of labor at noon to pushing out my baby (in only 1 1/2 contractions) at 7:29 PM. I would have had her out in one contraction, but the cord was wrapped around her neck so I had to stop pushing in the middle so they could unwrap it.
Watching TV and yes, my water broke. A few hours before my contractions started.
I had tried everything to start my labor. I finally sat down to watch an interesting show and forgot that I was trying to go into labor and voila! Labor.
haha..well remember that everyone goes into labor differently.
my experiences..
#1-went through a total cleaning frenzy, started feeling contrax, thought they were braxton hicks(3pm), about 1am woke up from pain. got up and timed them…real thing!
#2-actually had s e x, started feeling some cramping, didnt think much of it, went to walmart(super walmart!) walked around there for about 20 mins..contrax got stronger!
#3-went into premature labor at 33 wks, so cant really elaborate on that one..
oh all 3 dr had to break my water..
with my first i was in a hospital for two days being induced
my second I was in the bathroom when i lost my mucous plug and then realized what i had been feeling all day had been contractions
with my third the morning before the day he was due i started to have contractions that lasted until about 4:35 in the morning of his due day when I gave birth to him
with all my kids my water broke about 5-10minutes b4 I needed to push.
With my first, I had just got home from shopping for shoes with my youngest brother, we came home on the bus and my water broke at my mother’s house!
With my second, I had Braxton-Hicks contractions all the time and didn’t actually realize that I was in labour until the contractions became really strong – I got to the hospital and gave birth within the hour!
With my third, my water broke at home in bed – hubby and I rushed to the hospital like two excited teens – we had her about three hours later.
With my first son – I was chatting on the computer with my husband while he was at work when the first one hit. They became painful but not regular and I was in denial that it was real so I chatted on the phone to friends and my mom for three hours. I was pacing and the whole 9 yards and they kept going. I still didn’t think it was real until suddenly my water broke while I was on the phone. That was one of those wide eye’d moments of realization. "Oh we’re doing this NOW." I was frankly quite stunned as it was still 2.5 weeks before the due date and my brain fled leaving me half dressed and wandering from room to room mindlessly till my husband came in and saved the day by packing my bag for me only moments later.
With my second son – I was induced for pre-eclampsic symptoms but I had been having contractions at night for a week or so. I would lie still hoping they would continue and go somewhere because I was so sick of being pregnant. When they induced me I was 4.5 cm dilated anyway. The water didn’t break till he was born unexpectedly after I was fully dilated and waiting on the doctor. I threw up violently and thought I felt my water break. (I had an epidural) Turns out – the baby was completely born!
When I went into labor with my first, I was sitting on my bed watching a movie before I fell asleep. I was only 35 weeks and a few days and it was really hot out that day, so I thought I was just dehydrated and having bad braxton hicks contractions. I had pains all throughout the night, trying anything to get the pains to stop…hot water bottle, a bath, walking, laying on my sides, but they didn’t go away. In the morning I called my doctor and explained my symptoms and he said they were contractions and to time them, and if they were less than 3 minutes apart, to go to the hospital. They were, so off I went, still thinking I was only dehydrated since the pains weren’t too bad. I get to the hospital and I’m almost 8 cm dialated and they broke my water and I delivered my daughter 5 1/2 hours later.
With my second, I was getting induced at 38 weeks because my daughter was big, but when I went into the hospital I was having contractions but wasn’t feeling them, so my doctor broke my water and I delivered my second beautiful 8 1/2 lb baby girl 4 hours later.
i was in labor for about 8 hrs till i realized it wasn’t just a tummy ache. i had just been chilling at home with these horrible contractions until i called my mom and she was like ‘oh my god your going into labor’ i totally flipped. i got to the hospital and my water didn’t break for another 4 or 5 hrs right before they were going to break it themselves. but i was only dilated 3 cm after hrs of contractions so i had to get a c-section and boy was i drugged up
I was sleeping. Woke up to mild contractions.Went to hosp only to be sent back home and do some walking. Hrs later returned with full blown labor. While laying on the hosp bed i felt an urge to pee. Got out the bed, and my water broke, i thought i had peed on myself LOL.
For my first I was sleeping and woke up having contractions 2 minutes apart. I spent a couple hours at home then went to the hospital. Labor was 11 hours total.
For my second my water broke in the afternoon. I was awake but had just laid down to take a nap. I made a mad dash for the bathroom. I called my midwives and let them know. I wasn’t having contractions. My labor began a day and a half later in the middle of the night. Again, I woke up to contractions 2 minutes apart. Once labor began it was an easy 4 hour labor.
